Transfer Rumour: Manchester United ready take-it-or-leave-it £60 million bid for Eric Dier

Manchester United are reportedly considering a massive final bid of £60 million for Tottenham Hotspur’s highly sought-after midfielder Eric Dier

According to a report by The Mirror, Manchester United are preparing a final bid of £60 million for long-time target Eric Dier in an attempt to pry the player away from Spurs.

The Red Devils have been targeting him for months now, but Spurs have been holding firm since manager Mauricio Pochettino will be wary of losing another star player after Manchester City managed to sign Kyle Walker.

The in-demand Dier moved to Spurs from Sporting Lisbon back in August 2014 for a fee of £4 million. He did manage to carve out a place for himself, but ever since Victor Wanyama joined last summer, Dier has faced stiff competition in midfield.

A naturally versatile defensive player, Dier has played as a defensive midfielder, a centre-back and a right-back on several occasions.

Dier can perform the holding midfielder role quite well and has been one of the best in that position. Ever since he joined Spurs, the promising youngster has since made 135 first-team outings, scoring eight goals.

While he is clearly one of the strongest young Premier League talents, it is evident that he needs to work on his focus. More often than not, Dier’s lack of it during the game has been an issue and he will need to work on maintaining a consistent amount of concentration while playing.

He has his moments but his focus is not steady and that can be a bad thing if he is looking to last 90 minutes while making regular starts.

The 23-year-old England international has been on Jose Mourinho’s radar to improve United’s midfield situation and possibly even act as a replacement for Michael Carrick. The Red Devils need a strong midfielder since that will help them transition smoothly from defence to attack and boost their chances.

Dier is likely to get a permanent spot in the midfield for United and the player can potentially be a good fit since Mourinho requires cover in the defensive area of the midfield ahead of the new season. He could, thus, be the defensive midfielder who can put an end to United’s woes in that area.
