An irate Manchester United are reportedly demanding Toni Kroos from Real Madrid, who have reignited their interest in David De Gea
According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Real Madrid are rekindling their interest in signing David De Gea in this summer’s transfer window. Manchester United, though, will not let go of their prized asset easily as they are demanding Toni Kroos as part of any deal that sees the Spaniard head to the Bernabeu.
Both Kroos and De Gea are regarded among the best players on the planet in their positions, having gone from strength to strength ever since joining their respective clubs.
De Gea moved to Manchester United from boyhood club Atletico Madrid as a fresh faced 20-year-old in 2011. The Spaniard did struggle to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League initially, but has since developed remarkably to become a true force to be reckoned with as a shot stopper.

Kroos, on the other hand, progressed through the ranks at Bayern Munich to quickly establish himself as one of the hottest properties in world football. After failing out of favour with Pep Guardiola in the 2013/14 season though, the player made his way to Real Madrid, who beat stiff competition to secure his services.
At the Bernabeu, Kroos has only gone on to solidify his reputation as a creative force, with his record in this past season being nothing short of remarkable. The German midfielder made 48 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid in the 2016/17 season, with a return of 4 goals and 17 assists.
De Gea, too, enjoyed a solid season for Manchester United, particularly in the Premier League as he kept 14 clean sheets in 35 matches while conceding just 29 goals. The two players also played a key role in the successes of their respective clubs as the powerhouses won 4 major trophies among themselves.
It now looks like Kroos and De Gea could swap clubs this summer, with Real Madrid reigniting their interest in bringing the 26-year-old back to the Spanish capital. Having previously indicated that they had ended their interest in the Spain number one, the rekindling of interest has irked Manchester United.
As a result, they are demanding Kroos as part of any possible deal that sees De Gea leave Old Trafford. The deal, however unlikely it may seem at first, could perhaps be in the best interests of both clubs, with Real Madrid desperate to land a top goalkeeper this summer, and Jose Mourinho in search of a central midfielder.
De Gea’s addition at Real Madrid is likely to bring an end to the goalkeeping woes in Zinedine Zidane’s side following the struggles of Keylor Navas last season.
Kroos, on the other hand, will add a lot of steel and creativity from deep in midfield to Mourinho’s team, potentially making them a true contender for each of the tournaments they’re set to compete in next season. The move will also see Manchester United finally land the German, having been interested in him for several years.
However, in all likelihood, the deal is unlikely to take place with Zidane reluctant to part ways with Kroos, who is an instrumental figure at the Bernabeu. Manchester United, too, are unwilling to sell De Gea, and it is likely that both players will end up remaining at respective clubs instead of swapping homes this summer.
