Spurs are reportedly considering a move to sign FC Porto defender Ricardo Pereira for £22 million after selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City
According to a report by Evening Standard, Spurs are already in the market to sign a replacement for Kyle Walker and have been keen on Ricardo Pereira for the same.
Pereira has spent the last two seasons playing on loan at Nice from Porto and the 23-year-old has truly excelled and proven his capabilities in French football. He has also been capped twice by Portugal at a senior level recently, which only goes to show quickly he is improving his form.
It is understood that Pereira impressed Tottenham’s head scout Steve Hitchen during his performances for Nice and since Walker has left, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will need another strong right-back to provide competition for Kieran Trippier and also as an alternative.
If the deal does go through, Pochettino will definitely benefit from Pereira’s versatility. He can play right-back, right-wing back and also fill in at left-back which ideally fits right into the manager’s plan of trying to sign adaptable players this summer, since that will help the squad in the upcoming season.
Additionally, Pereira can can also play further forward on the flanks. His talent and tenacity are likely to provide Pochettino with the required solidity that was missing in their defence for major parts of last season and they will be looking to change things up and launch a better challenge to win the title.
With Walker’s departure to City, Pereira will be a good signing to boost Spurs’ defence. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has managed to sign a sought-after defender and will be happy that the move has finally gone through after months of speculation.
Walker’s decision to leave the Spurs can only benefit Pereira since the north London club have a lot to offer. It is understood that his decision came after a fall out of favour with Pochettino towards the end of last season and Manchester City have been keeping a close eye ever since.
