In fact, the 19-year-old has made just eight senior appearances for Palmeiras, and was quickly relegated to the bench after the club chose to invest heavily in the market following the sale of Gabriel Jesus to Manchester City.
Nvertheless, Vitinho has been impressive enough to capture the attention of one of the biggest clubs in the world – Barcelona. And the player has now followed the Manchester City star’s footsteps to leave Palmeiras to make the move to Europe.
Barcelona had, in fact, been monitoring the teenager’s progress for a long time now and have now struck a deal with Palmeiras to complete the player’s loan move. The Brazilian club were also willing to let one of their most exciting young prospects leave as they would like to see him continue his development by playing regular football.
Vitinho has, thus, signed a year-long loan deal with Barcelona, with the Catalan club having the option to make the move a permanent one next summer, just like they did with Marlon’s acquisition recently.
The 19-year-old will continue his development under Gerard Lopez at Barcelona B next season, although he is set to join the senior squad in their pre-season tour to the USA alongside five of his new reserve side teammates.
It now remains to be seen if Vitinho is able to continue his impressive development at Barcelona next season to earn a permanent move to Camp Nou in 2018.
