Adnan Januzaj is reportedly close to securing a move out of Old Trafford to join La Liga club Real Sociedad for £9.8 million

According to a report by Daily Mail, Adnan Januzaj is set to join Real Sociedad for £9.8 million this summer after spending last two seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland.

When one analyzes his performances, it does come to light that he fared extremely well before the 2014 World Cup. In fact, when he was signed by the then Manchester United manager David Moyes, Januzaj was touted as the next big thing and he firmly established himself as a fan favourite in no time.

Unfortunately for the once promising youngster, Louis van Gaal replaced David Moyes as United’s new manager and he was frozen out of the squad once that happened. In a desperate attempt to play regular first-team football, Januzaj joined Borussia Dortmund on loan, but that turned out to be a mistake.

The strong German club made it tough for him to get a break, unlike the Red Devils at that point, Dortmund did not lack strong attacking wingers. He didn’t start a single league game and although the loan deal was for one season, the arrangement was discarded merely five months later with Thomas Tuchel criticizing his attitude.

Januzaj endured a similarly frustrating loan spell with Sunderland last season. His performances were rather uninspiring and he scored only once in 28 games when the club played against Shrewsbury in the EFL Cup.

The opportunity to sign for Real Sociedad is likely to be Januzaj’s best bet right now since Jose Mourinho is quite sure about not featuring him in his plans for the upcoming season. That has been evident in the fact that the Portuguese boss is fighting tooth and nail to land a new winger and reportedly wants Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic.

Next season will be a crucial one for Manchester United and Mourinho is aware of the fact that he cannot afford to take the risk of letting Januzaj take his own time in getting back to form and adjusting his attitude.

The young Belgian will need to make major changes in his attitude if he wants to play at the top level regularly for Real Sociedad, as he is clearly talented and has the required skill. This could be the ideal chance for him to re-ignite his passion and carve out a way to rise again from his fall from grace.
