Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Karim Benzema from Real Madrid in the summer.
Spanish publication Don Balon have reported that Karim Benzema is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions are set to approach their La Liga counterparts over a move for the French striker in the summer transfer window.
Benzema joined Real Madrid from boyhood club Lyon in the summer of 2009 when he was hailed as one of the most exciting young prospects in Europe. Since then, the Frenchman has been one of the cornerstones of Los Blancos’ success while also being rated among the best strikers in the world.
Benzema has also forged one of the most potent attacking trios of all time – the BBC – alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale and the three have led Real Madrid to unprecedented success in the last four seasons.
The 29-year-old has already represented Real Madrid over 350 times, with a respectable record of 181 goals and 103 assists to boot. 2016/17, though, was one of his least productive campaigns for the Spanish heavyweights, as he managed to score just 19 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.
Benzema’s future at Real Madrid, though, is starting to come under scrutiny as while the likes of Ronaldo, Bale, Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have penned new deals with the club, the Frenchman continues to wait for an offer to be tabled.
Benzema has just two more years remaining on his current deal with Los Blancos, and no formal offer in sight, Bayern Munich are set to make a move for the 29-year-old in the summer transfer window.
Carlo Ancelotti, under whom Benzema enjoyed some of the best form of his senior career, remains an ardent fan of his former charge. And the Bayern manager is eyeing a reunion with the player in the summer, having personally approached him for a move to the Allianz Arena.
The move for Benzema seems to make perfect sense for the Bavarian giants, especially with Robert Lewandowski being heavily linked with a summer exit. And Benzema could be the ideal like for like replacement for the Poland striker for Bayern, providing them his best years.
It now remains to be seen if Benzema’s situation at Real Madrid gets resolved anytime soon as he would prefer remaining at the Bernabeu. If not, a summer switch to Bayern Munich could well be on the cards.
