Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the summer.

Spanish publication Don Balon have reported that Real Madrid have set their sights on Alexis Sanchez. With Cristiano Ronaldo eager to leave the Spanish capital, Los Blancos are eyeing the Arsenal forward for a move in the summer transfer window.

Sanchez has established himself as one of the most menacing forwards in Europe since joining Arsenal from Barcelona in the summer of 2014. Over the last three seasons, the Chilean has been one of the go-to men for Arsene Wenger, with the Frenchman trying him in several positions.

2016/17 saw Sanchez being deployed in an unfamiliar role as striker for large parts of the campaign. But Sanchez excelled in the makeshift role to enjoy his productive season, bagging 30 goals and 19 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions.

24 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League also made him the only player in the English top flight to reach double figures on both accounts – only the second ever Arsenal player to achieve the feat, after Thierry Henry. However, after three seasons at the Emirates, Sanchez looks set to leave Arsenal in the summer.

The player’s contract with the Gunners is set to run in 12 months’ time, and while the North London club have tabled several contract offers to him, there has been no development whatsoever over reaching an agreement on a renewal.

As a result, Sanchez looks destined to leave Arsenal for pastures anew in the summer, with a host of clubs making a beeline for him. The latest in his line of suitors are Real Madrid, who look set to make a move for the former Barcelona man.

At the Santiago Bernabeu, the future of talisman Cristiano Ronaldo is mired in heavy uncertainty after widespread reports that emerged last week claimed that the Portugal captain wants to leave the Spanish capital in the summer.

Should Ronaldo indeed end his eight-year spell at Real Madrid, Sanchez would make for a superb like for like replacement. The move to Real Madrid will also provide the Chilean the opportunity to play in the Champions League once again, while even having the chance to lift the trophy.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich and Manchester City continue to retain an interest in Sanchez, but Real Madrid are, as per the report, the overwhelming favourites to sign him. The player, too, will take up the chance to play at the Bernabeu, and it remains to be seen if the move materialises.
