Ryan Giggs is reportedly keen to kickstart his managerial career as the Southampton manager, and is eyeing the vacant position at St. Mary’s.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Ryan Giggs is keen on making first foray into the full-time football management at Southampton, with the Saints in search of a new man to take over at the helm at St. Mary’s following the dismissal of Claude Puel.
Giggs enjoyed a storied career with Manchester United after making his senior debut for the club at the nascent age of 17 in 1991. In fact, the Welshman was an instrumental figure for the Red Devils during a period in which they dominated English football, clinching every trophy their is to win in club competitions.

Giggs, in fact, is one of the most decorated players in the game’s history, with 34 winner’s medal in his name. The 43-year-old also holds the record for providing the most assists in the Premier League – 162 – and is the record appearance maker for Manchester United as well, having played 963 games for them.
In his last season for Manchester United, Giggs also got his first taste of life as a manager, as he took temporary charge of the first-team squad for the last four games of the 2013/14 season upon David Moyes’ dismissal in April 2014.
Subsequently, he was also the assistant manager at Manchester United for two years while Louis van Gaal was at the helm at Old Trafford. Following van Gaal’s departure from the club, Giggs has been constantly linked with several managerial jobs, most notably at Swansea City after Bob Bradley was sacked last December.
Giggs has now again been linked with a managerial job, with Southampton in search of the next person to take charge at the club. The south coast club sacked Claude Puel earlier this week after just one season with his side finishing 8th in the Premier League while also reaching the EFL Cup final.
The fans at St. Mary’s, though, often voiced their displeasure towards the team’s style of play, while there were also reports of unrest within the dressing room. And Giggs is keen to take his first steps into management at Southampton as he believes the club’s infrastructure would provide him the right base to start his managerial career.
Southampton, though, are also considering some other names, with Mauricio Pellegrino and Frank de Boer the two most prominent names on their shortlist, as per the report.
Having said that, the Saints have often sprung a surprise with their choice of managers, meaning one can’t rule Giggs out from taking over at the helm at St. Mary’s, and it now remains to be seen if his first foray into management is at Southampton.
