Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer

According to Gavin Glicksman of the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have been put on red alert as Ligue 1 giants Paris St. Germain have ended their interest in signing Borussia Dortmund talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer.

The Gabon international, who has flourished considerably during his time at the Signal Iduna Park, is understood to be unhappy at the club due to their lack of silverware, and is considering a move away from the club.

He has played up Real Madrid links in the past, but PSG were the favourites to land him. The Ligue 1 side parted ways with Zlatan Ibrahimovic last June, and despite the glowing performances of Edinson Cavani, they are still looking to add to their ranks in the final third.

Aubameyang looked set to move to the Parc des Princes in the summer, but PSG sporting director Antero Henrique is of the opinion that Dortmund’s €70 million is a tad too much for their liking, and have decided to end their interest in the player.

This has put Manchester United on high alert, who were playing second fiddle in the race to sign the attacker ever since they began to show an interest in him in May. Manager Jose Mourinho is looking to rope in quality players, and Aubameyang is on his list of transfer targets.

United’s priority target is Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata at the moment, but the Spanish club are playing hard ball, by quoting a staggering asking rate in order to part ways with the former Juventus man.

Despite United’s astronomical transfer budget, they may have set a limit on how much they are willing to spend on Morata, and could be priced out by Real asking’s rate understood to be in the region of €80 million.

Aubameyang is certainly a cheaper option compared to Morata, and could bring more to the table for the Manchester outfit than the Spaniard. Unlike the Real front man, the Gabonese can play as a number 10 as well, and is decent when fielded out wide as well.

While he may not be as physical as Morata, he is a significantly pacier, and his movement on and off the ball has been pivotal in his run towards the Bundesliga Golden Boot this past season.

The ball is now in Manchester United’s court whether or not they weigh in with an offer for Aubameyang, or continue to pursue the other targets they have been linked with all summer.
