Adnan Januzaj will reportedly leave Manchester United this summer to join AS Roma after being loaned to Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland
According to a report by DHNet, Adnan Januzaj has caught the fancy of AS Roma as the Italian club is set for a move to sign the Belgian winger. He finished two loan spells for Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland, but has failed to muster the kind of performances he put up before the 2014 World Cup.
Ahead of that, Manchester United were subjected to scintillating performances by the youngster as he tore through defences to torment the opposition under David Moyes. Once Louis van Gaal replaced Moyes, it was expected that if the Dutchman could improve the rest of the team to an extent, the Belgian would also continue to progress.
That did not work out since Januzaj was frozen out. Finally, in a desperate attempt to play first-team football, Januzaj chose to join Borussia Dortmund on loan but that turned out to be a major mistake. The German club made it tough for him to get a break since they are not lacking as far as the front line is concerned.
He then moved to Sunderland under David Moyes, but the manager got a completely different player when compared to what he had seen before and the Sunderland fans were never happy with the kind of lethargic performances Januzaj put up. It was almost as if something ended the hunger in him to get on the ball and score.
However, AS Roma are keen on including him in their lineup are believed to have followed the player closely. It was also reported that an agent has even been appointed to facilitate negotiations between Roma, Manchester United and the player.
Monchi, the new technical director of the Italian club, is especially interested in Januzaj after he impressed him in a friendly match back in 2013.
Januzaj will need to adjust his attitude if he wants to play at the top level regularly for Roma, as he is talented and has the required skill. This could be the ideal chance for him to re-ignite his passion and carve out a way to rise again from his fall from grace.
Meanwhile, United received a major setback in their summer transfer business as long-time target Antoine Griezmann signed a contract extension with Atletico Madrid. They need a quality striker and have been targeting Kylian Mbappe from AS Monaco but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
