Manchester City are keen on signing Isco, and are weighing up a move to bring the Real Madrid midfielder to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Spanish publication Don Balon have reported that Pep Guardiola has set his sights on Isco. The Manchester City manager is set to sanction a deal to bring the Real Madrid midfielder to the Etihad Stadium in the summer transfer window.
Isco endured a topsy turvy campaign with Real Madrid in 2016/17. Out of favour with manager Zinedine Zidane for large parts of the season, the player established himself as a vital component in Los Blancos’ successful end to the season as they completed a La Liga and Champions League double.
The season was also somewhat fruitful for Isco on a personal level, as he reached double figures for goals in a La Liga campaign for the first time in his career (10 goals in 30 matches). In all, the 25-year-old notched up 11 goals and 10 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish giants.
The campaign also ended with Isco pledging his future to Real Madrid following the side’s emphatic triumph in the UEFA Champions League final. However, the player is yet to formally commit his future to the club, and with just 12 months left on his current deal there’s growing fears surrounding his position at the Santiago Bernabeu.
And while there are several clubs that are already making a beeline for him, one club is ready to pounce on the uncertainty surrounding Isco, with Manchester City eager to land the player this summer. Pep Guardiola is believed to be an admirer of the Spaniard’s talents, and is, thus seeking a move for him.
In fact, Isco’s versatility can potentially make him a valuable asset in the City manager’s first-team setup at the Etihad Stadium, as he can slot in various roles from a central midfielder to a much more advanced position in attack.
However, Real Madrid are keen to tie him down to a new deal. Meanwhile, the final stretch of the 2016/17 season has also seen Isco being eager to remain at the Bernabeu, and while differences still remain, a renewal is certainly in the offing.
It now remains to be seen if Pep Guardiola or Manchester City are able to do anything to persuade Isco into making a switch to the Premier League, as he looks set to put pen to paper on a new deal imminently.
