Manchester United have reportedly seen their £35 million bid for Ivan Perisic rejected by Inter Milan

According to a report in The Sun, Inter Milan have turned down Manchester United’s £35 million bid for Ivan Perisic. The Nerazzurri are holding out for £50 million for the Croatian winger, who is keen on making the switch to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.

Perisic has been a key figure for Inter ever since he switched allegiances from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2015. And although inconsistent at times this season, the 28-year-old was instrumental for the Serie A club, bagging 11 goals and 10 assists in 42 appearances for his side.

Perisic has also been an integral member for the Croatian national side in the last few years, having notched up 56 caps for his country while also finding the back of the net on 16 occasions.

His progress over the years have earned the player many admirers, and following his performances in 2016/17, he is now a highly sought-after player in the transfer market. In fact, Perisic has been a long-time target for Manchester United, who are pulling out all the stops to land him this summer.

Jose Mourinho has the likes of Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard to choose from for three positions behind the central striker in his side. However, Wayne Rooney is likely to depart from Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, while Lingard is seen as more of a squad player.

With just three key first-team regulars at his disposal apart from the aforementioned duo, the Manchester United boss has an urgent need to bolster his attacking options ahead of his side’s return to the Champions League.

He has, thus, set his sights on Perisic over a move in the summer transfer window. At 28, the Croatia international will be able to provide his best years to Manchester United and is, hence, an ideal short-term solution for the Red Devils.

The switch to Old Trafford would also allow Perisic to play in the Champions League following Inter Milan’s failure to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition. Talks have, thus, been ongoing between the two clubs, and Manchester United have also lodged a £35 million bid to secure the player’s services.

Inter, though, have rejected the Premier League club’s offer as they are holding out for £50 million. The report suggest that the Nerazzurri are firm on their valuation of the player, and it remains to be seen if Manchester United match the figure, or if they are able to negotiate a lower sum for Perisic.
