Inter Milan are reportedly in talks with Arda Turan over a move from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to a report in TransferMarketWeb, Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan’s representatives have met with Inter Milan club officials this week to discuss a possible switch to San Siro in the summer transfer window.
Turan’s career has gone slightly pear-shaped ever since he secured his dream move to Barcelona in the summer of 2015. Well into his second season now with the Blaugranas, the Turkis international has still not managed to carve out a regular place for himself in the starting lineup.
His versatility makes him a candidate to play as part for the front trio as well as the centre of the park in Barcelona’s system. But while he was probably never going to usurp any of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar from the starting lineup, back in the midfield, he has had to suffice with being the third option alongside Ivan Rakitic, Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes.
His numbers still make for decent reading, as he has scored 13 goals in addition to providing 7 assists in 30 appearances across all competitions, a large portion of which came from the bench. And with Turan being at the peak of his powers currently, it is believed that a move away from Barcelona would suit him best.
That move could be to Italy, where Inter Milan are keen to recruit him as part of their summer squad overhaul. The Suning Group are desperate to take the club back to the top of Italian and European football, and are, thus, willing to invest heavily into bolster Nerazzurri’s squad in the summer.
While attack is not as big a concern for Inter as defence is, Turan’s addition will add a lot of value to their squad. And the possible attacking partnership of Ivan Perisic, Mauro Icardi and Turan has the potential to be one of the most potent and fearsome ones in Italy, if not Europe.
In addition to that, his versatility also makes him a candidate to slot into the midfield, if need be. Arsenal have previously expressed an interest in signing Turan as well, and it remains to be seen if they spring into action following Inter’s move.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are willing to do business with any side that shells out €22 million to secure the services – an amount that is unlikely to deter either Inter or Arsenal in their pursuit of the 30-year-old.
