Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on roping in Gianluigi Donnarumma in the summer.
According to Fred Nathan of the Sun, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has his eyes set on AC Milan shot stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma as David De Gea appears to be destined to move to Real Madrid in the summer.
The Spaniard was set to join Real Madrid in last season’s summer transfer window. But, the move did not go through due to a delay of paperwork submission which was caused by a faulty fax machine, and De Gea stayed on at Old Trafford.
Both teams decided to point fingers on each other for the failed transfer, but it was a blessing in disguise for the Red Devils as De Gea went on to become the player of the season for them. His phenomenal shot-stopping abilities helped keep Manchester United in a number of matches.
While he may not have been at his very best this season, he is still regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the game today, and will be a huge blow to the club if he decides to leave for his native Spain.
However, if Manchester United United can’t convince the player to stay, they are likely to command a huge fee for his services as he still has a couple of seasons to see out in his contract at the club. It is believed that Real are willing to shell out £60 million for his services.
With Sergio Romero serving as a more than capable back-up for the Spaniard, Mourinho wants to sign a new goalkeeper, and AC Milan’s adept shot stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma tops his wishlist.
The teenage goalkeeping sensation broke into Milan’s first team at the tender age of 16, and is already one of Serie A’s top players in that position. The 18-year-old has 13 months left on his current contract, and given the interest from United, he is unlikely to sign an extension.
His agent Mino Raiola is a stern negotiator and is expected to command a huge fee for his client. Donnarumma has already drawn the attention of a host of top European clubs including Chelsea, Manchester City and Juventus.
Thus, he is not likely to come on the cheaper side, and United CEO Ed Woodward will have to fight tooth and nail to convince him to move to Old Trafford in the summer.
