Barcelona are reportedly plotting a move to sign Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.
According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Barcelona are planning a summer rebuild post the impending departure of Luis Enrique, and are set to embark on a raid on Tottenham for Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen has been one of the most influential players for Tottenham ever since he made the switch to English football from Ajax in 2013. In fact, the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane has seen, Eriksen take his game to the next level, as he has combined with Harry Kane and Dele Alli to forge a fearsome attacking trio.
2016/17 has been, by far, the best campaign for the Danish playmaker, and while Kane and Alli have been the headline grabbers for Tottenham, he has been the lifeblood of the North London club’s attack.
Numbers tell the tale too, with Eriksen scoring 11 goals while providing 20 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions for the Lilywhites. The latter is quite a significant number, with Eriksen assisting the more goals in all competitions than any other player in the Top 5 leagues in Europe.
With his playmaking abilities well documented now, Eriksen is starting to be regarded as one of the best in his position in Europe. As a result, it looks like one of the biggest clubs in the continent is now ready to launch the offensive to land him in the summer.
Barcelona are eager to embark on a rebuilding process at Camp Nou in the summer, by reinforcing positions that have left them vulnerable this season. A playmaker is believed to one of the top priorities for the Catalan club, which is why they have been linked with the likes of Marco Verratti, Bernardo Silva and others.
Eriksen is the latest in the line of top quality playmakers who have been linked with Barcelona, having been scouted on a regular basis this year. The Blaugrana are clear that they want the Dane to be the player who supplies the all-important final ball to one of the most potent strike forces in the world – the MSN.
With Barcelona eager to land Eriksen at all costs, it is believed that the club could use former player, Michael Laudrup as a go-between to persuade his compatriot to make the switch to Camp Nou in the summer.
At 25, Eriksen has his best years ahead of him, and his potential is exciting to say the least with his playmaking abilities already revered highly. However, he only recently penned a new deal that ties him up with Tottenham till 2020, and it remains to be seen if either Eriksen or Daniel Levy can be tempted to make the move a reality.
