Barcelona are ready to pay upto €90 million to land Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria, according to reports
According to Don Balon, Barcelona are weighing up an offer for former Real Madrid and Manchester United and current Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria after the winger’s impressive performances for the French side this season.
They state that Barcelona feel Di Maria is the perfect addition to their midfield as his combination of pace and technical ability are exactly what the Catalans want in order to rejuvenate their midfield ahead of next season.
The Argentinian international left Real Madrid back in 2014, joining English behemoths Manchester United in a €70 million deal. However, after falling out with manager Louis van Gaal and regularly being benched for the Red Devils, Di Maria eventually joined PSG only one season later in a €52 million deal.
He has since reinvigorated his career and has been one of the most impressive players in France, despite PSG’s struggles this season. Di Maria was also their standout payer in their round of 16 exit to Barcelona, when the French side threw away a 4-0 first leg advantage to exit the competition after losing 6-5 on aggregate.
Don Balon claim that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in what Barcelona have to offer for the Argentinian midfielder and given that Di Maria is 29 years of age and will only have two years left on his contract at the end of the season, an offer of €90 million might be too good for the French side to turn down.
However, given that PSG are in no need of finances and will not be under any pressure to sell as a result, the only way the deal would go through is if they themselves choose to sell the player, who has been absolutely key to their season.
It would represent a significant coup for Barcelona – who have already been linked with a move for the winger this summer – and will no doubt leave a sour taste in the mouths of many Madrid fans, given that Di Maria spent four successful seasons with Los Blancos, winning a La Liga title and UEFA Champions League trophy.
The Argentine might also be interested in a move given that his compatriot Lionel Messi plays at the club, alongside Javier Mascherano. However, it remains to be seen if Barcelona will be willing to spend such a significant amount on one player, given that the new manager will likely want at least 3 new players when he takes over in the summer.
