Manchester United has reportedly submitted a massive cash bid for Paris Saint-Germain’s Brazilian defender Marquinhos.

According to a report on Transfer Market Web, the Red Devils have shelled out a massive £60 million for the services of Marquinhos.

While the Brazilian is essentially a central defender, he has also proven to be handy as a right-back. He has played an integral role in all three Ligue 1 title races for PSG and is rightfully touted as one of the most talented defenders in Europe.

His recent performances have attracted several buyers, but Manchester United is said to have a keen eye on the defender. It was earlier reported that Jose Mourinho was willing to spend £59 million on a deal to sign the 22-year-old.

PSG have not made any comment so far, and the club will definitely try to retain the promising youngster. Although Marquinhos’ contract with PSG expires in 2019, he has made it clear that he is looking to move away from the French club.

Earlier, there were reports of Marquinhos making a move to Spanish club Barcelona. The deal did not materialise, and now it seems like United have emerged as the front-runners to sign him on.

Marquinhos joined PSG from AS Roma back in 2013, but he is enjoying his finest season to date. He has established a strong central defensive partnership with Thiago Silva, and the duo has tormented quite a lot of sides.

Chelsea have also been expressing interest in the defender. Antonio Conte has always been vocal about his admiration for the PSG centre-back, and he will be keen to strengthen his defense as well, with John Terry expected to retire after the end of this season.

Both Conte and Mourinho need reinforcements to strengthen the back-line, and Marquinhos truly is one of the best.
Manchester United have also been linked to signing Arsenal’s Chilean star Alexis Sanchez, despite strong competition from their arch-rivals Manchester City. Mourinho’s side already spent flashy amounts of money last season, and it remains to be seen how much they shell out during this transfer window.
