Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier has reportedly agreed a deal in principle to join Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
French publication L’Equipe have reported that Serge Aurier is eager to link up with Jose Mourinho, and has held advanced talks with Manchester United over a switch to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.
Aurier has established himself as one of the best right-backs in France during his spells with boyhood club Lens, Toulouse and PSG. In fact, the Ivorian has evolved into one of the more prominent full-backs in Europe ever since joining PSG from Toulouse in 2014.
Aurier, though, has also been an outspoken figure in the French capital, which has often landed him in trouble. However, despite being embroiled in a number of controversies, he remains a fine right-back, which is why several clubs have made attempts to sign him.
Aurier has been linked with the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City in recent months. But, it now looks like he may be a step closer to joining Manchester United in the summer.
Aurier has, according to the report, held talks with the Red Devils over a possible summer move to Old Trafford and is tempted to work with Jose Mourinho. In addition to that, the Ivory Coast international is also keen to depart from the Parc des Princes as he has had to share game time with Thomas Meunier.
Indeed, Aurier has played 19 of the 33 matches that PSG have played in Ligue 1, and is eager to play more regular first-team football which is why he has had to consider his future away from the Parisian club.
Aurier could get that at Manchester United, who have been long-time admirers of his talents, where Jose Mourinho is believed to be looking for a top quality right-back.
While it is true that current incumbent, Antonio Valencia has made the position his own this season, and has been one of the most consistent players in Mourinho’s squad, the Manchester United boss does not have quality options beyond the Ecuadorian.
Thus, Aurier and Valencia could combine to become a formidable right-back pairing for Manchester United. And with Valencia on the wrong side of 30, Aurier could even take over the reins for the position from the Ecuador international to become a long-term solution at the right side of defence for Manchester United.
However, the report adds that PSG are unwilling to let go of Aurier without a fight, which suggests that a possible move may only take place if the defender forces through a move. Having said that Manchester United will have to fork out €20 million in order to secure his services, and it remains to be seen if a move takes place in the summer.
