Arsenal are reportedly preparing a €30 million offer to sign Arda Turan from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
Italian outlet Calciomercato have reported that Arsenal are plotting a summer move for Barcelona forward Arda Turan. The North London club are set to table a bid of €30 million to land the Turkish international when the transfer window reopens in June.
Turan’s career has stuttered a bit despite making a dream move to Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in 2015. Having arrived at Camp Nou with a burgeoning reputation of being one of the most exciting forwards in Europe, he has failed to enhance it.
Turan made a belated start to his career with Barcelona last season after missing the first half due to the transfer ban that had been imposed on the club. However, he has still not managed to establish himself as a regular in the first team setup at Camp Nou.
Usurping the star front trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar was always going to be a tall order, but he hasn’t managed to become an established member in the midfield, having often had to make do with being rotated with Ivan Rakitic, Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes.
As a result, Turan has started just 13 games in La Liga, bagging 3 goals and as many assists in these appearances. And with limited opportunities coming his way, it is looking increasingly likely that the 30-year-old could move on from Barcelona at the end of the seasons.
One club that is set to try their hand at persuading Turan to leave Barcelona in the summer is Arsenal. The Gunners are long-time admirers of Turan’s talents and they even tried to sign him last summer, before a move failed to materialise.
It now looks like Arsenal are back in the market for Turan, as they look to add attacking reinforcements in the summer. The North London club are in a spot of bother as far as attack is concerned, with Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Lucas Perez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all being linked with a summer exit from the Emirates.
Should any/all of these players choose to end their Arsenal careers at the end of the season, Arsene Wenger could be in desperate need to add top quality players in attack. With Turan enjoying his best years, he could prove to be a valuable asset, as a regular role could bring the best out of him.
Additionally, his versatility will allow him to play across midfield and attack, thus making him a viable target for Wenger to consider. Arsenal are now preparing an offer of €30 million to secure Turan’s services, and it remains to be seen if that will be enough to tempt Barcelona into selling the Turkey international.
