Transfer News: Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool in three-way tussle for Luan

Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are reportedly in a three-way tussle to land highly-rated Brazilian forward Luan, who plies his trade for Gremio.

As per a report from TransferMarketWeb, Arsenal and Tottenham are the latest clubs to join the chase for Brazilian forward Luan. The Gremio forward has been tailed by Liverpool for a long time now. But, it seems the Reds are set to face competition in the summer pursuit of the player, with Arsenal and Tottenham entering the race.

Luan Guilherme de Jesus Vieira is a 24-year-old Brazilian forward who is also adept at playing on the left-wing and as a secondary striker as well. The player has amassed 96 senior appearances for Gremio, with 22 goals and 15 assists to his name, having joined the club from Catanduvense in January, 2014.

European interest is not a new thing for Luan, though. The player’s performance in the successful Olympics conquest for Brazil drew interest from Barcelona and later on, Liverpool. While Barcelona ended up signing Paco Alcacer as the fourth forward, Liverpool have failed to add depth to their attack.

And while the Reds are still interested in the player, Arsenal and Tottenham have arrived as well to provide competition to Liverpool. Arsenal need to add strikers to the squad, especially with Alexis Sanchez all but set to exit the club in the summer.

Add to that the growing uncertainty regarding the future of Arsene Wenger and several other senior members of the squad and Arsenal are in need of reinforcements, especially with the club failing to add a quality forward to their ranks after the departure of Robin Van Persie.

Tottenham, too, are looking to add a cover for Harry Kane, especially after Vincent Janssen’s failure to establish himself at White Hart Lane. Also, Moussa Sissoko is likely to exit the club in the summer and with Luan having the capability to play on the left wing could be invaluable to Mauricio Pochettino.

Liverpool, too, need a pure striker, with Daniel Sturridge set to be offloaded in the summer while Divock Origi still has a long way to go before being able to lead the line for a club as big as the Reds.

Also, the addition of a fellow Brazilian might convince Coutinho to reject advances from other clubs and stay at Anfield.

As per the report, the player, who is contracted to Gremio till 2018, might be available for around €15 million, an amount which neither of the interested clubs are likely to hesitate about splashing the aforementioned fee in order to get a forward of the same quality as Luan.
