Atletico Madrid vs Leicester City Team News: Morgan out; Benalouane to make UCL debut

Leicester City will be without Wes Morgan for the tie, which means Yohan Benalouane is set for his UEFA Champions League debut against Atletico Madrid.

Leicester City have traveled to Spain again for the Champions League, this time to face Atletico Madrid in the Quarter Finals of the aforementioned European tournament. The Foxes will be aiming for another shock as they hope to continue their bewildering journey towards unprecedented European glory.

However, the Foxes have been rocked by the absence of Wes Morgan, who has failed to recover in time from his back injury and is set to miss the first leg, at the very least. The injury means Craig Shakespeare will be forced to hand Yohan Benalouane his Champions League debut for the Foxes on Wednesday.

Wilfred Ndidi, on the other hand, is fit to play a part in the fixture as Craig Shakespeare delivered team updates in the pre-match conference.

“There’s no chance [Morgan’ll play]. He’s here and he travelled with the team, but he’ll take no part in the game. Wilfred [Ndidi] is fine. He trained partly yesterday and he’ll take part in the whole session today. Hopefully he’ll come through that okay, which is what we’re expecting.”

Atletico Madrid have one positive to draw upon before the tie in terms of team updates. Nicolas Gaitan has been declared fit for the tie and the Argentine, who had an arthritis in the metatarsal phalangeal joint in the big toe of the left foot, trained with the side ahead of the tie.

In other news, Atletico Madrid will still be without Miguel Angel Moya, Tiago and Augusto Fernandez with Sime Vrsaljko and Kevin Gameiro also doubts for the game. However, the presence of Fernando Torres is likely to cover for the absence of Gameiro.

For Leicester City, there are no other injury issues to take care of, except Nampalys Mendy and Molly Wague. The onus will be on Wilfred Ndidi for the Foxes, who has risen up to the occasion recently, with consistently explosive displays in the middle of the park.

For Atletico Madrid, Antoine Griezmann will be tasked with spearheading the attack and the Frenchman is likely to be tested by a solid defensive foundation from Leicester City.
