Tottenham are confident of holding onto Dele Alli this summer, with both Real Madrid and Manchester City waiting in the wings

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are confident of holding on to their star midfielder Dele Alli this summer despite the fact that several clubs have shown a concrete interest in signing the English international.

Alli only signed for Spurs in an initial £5 million deal back in the winter transfer window of 2015, before returning to his parent club MK Dons for the rest of the season. After joining up with the Tottenham squad that summer, Alli has had a huge impact on the Premier League and has not looked back since.

He has managed to reach 10 goals in his debut Premier League season and was named the 2015-16 PFA Young Player of the Year as well, beating the likes of  Romelu Lukaku, Philippe Coutinho and teammate Harry Kane along the way.

Despite questions over his temperament this season, Alli has continued his fine form and has picked up 18 goals and 10 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions – including a run that saw him score 8 goals in 6 league matches from December to January, earning him the Player of the Month award.

It is no surprise, then, that several top clubs around Europe have been monitoring the 20-year old midfielder. Reports emerged last month that Gareth Bale was pushing Real Madrid to sign the midfielder from his former club as a potential replacement for the departing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid have always had a policy of signing top stars from around the world and have been snapping up some of the best young talent around in recent years, so it is natural that they have developed an interest in the Tottenham midfielder.

The Daily Mail state that Manchester City have also shown a concrete interest in the English international. It is in line with City’s habit of signing young English talent in recent years in order to build a squad that is both competitive and stays within the homegrown quota.

Guardiola also has a great record of developing young players and is said to be a big fan of Alli. However, the Daily Mail claim that City are now prioritising other positions which has led to them cooling their interest in the midfielder, especially since Spurs will be completely against selling one of their best players to a direct rival.

Real Madrid are also said to be turning their attention elsewhere, with Eden Hazard a top priority for Los Blancos this summer. All of these factors have led to Tottenham remaining confident that Alli will stay and given that he is contracted until 2022, this seems like the most likely outcome this summer.
