Real Madrid are reportedly considering Arsene Wenger as their next manager if they let go of Zinedine Zidane at the end of the season

Spanish journalist Javier Matallanas has written in his blog for AS that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could be set to be offered the job at the helm at Real Madrid, if Los Blancos decide to sensationally part ways with Zinedine Zidane at the end of the campaign.

Arsene Wenger himself is facing an uncertain future at Arsenal, having managed the North London club for more than 20 years. The Gunners have endured a tough couple of months, losing four of their last six Premier League games, apart from the 10-2 aggregate capitulation against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

His contract at the Emirates runs out at the end of the season, and there has been no word from the club or Wenger himself about a possible contract extension, which will be a highly unpopular decision among a certain section of the club’s fanbase that have been clamouring for his exit.

The French manager, on his part, has just declared his intention to still be managing a team next season. However, several reports have stated that Wenger has a two-year contract extension offer on his table from Arsenal, which he is yet to pen.

But while his future at the Emirates is under heavy scrutiny and uncertainty, he could soon have another offer on his table, and this time from another club in Europe. That is because Real Madrid are pondering over a summer move for Wenger, if they take the decision to sack Zinedine Zidane.

Zidane has enjoyed a highly successful first 15 months in charge of Los Blancos, winning the Champions League for a record extending 11th time before also landing the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

Real Madrid have also taken the lead in the race to win La Liga this season, and are in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where they will try to trump Bayern Munich this month in a bid to become the first club to successfully defend the title.

However, Matallanas has pointed out in his blog that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez could take the decision to let go of Zidane at the end of the season if the club fails to win any title in the current campaign.

Perez does have the infamous reputation of being trigger-happy when it comes to sacking managers. Thus, Zidane could get under increasing pressure to produce the goods come the end of May in order to be secure at the helm at the Bernabeu.

If that fails to happen, we could well see Arsene Wenger managing Real Madrid next season, with Perez believed to be a huge admirer of Zidane’s compatriot, and a manager he tried signing several years ago. For now though, both managers would be desperate to achieve their respective clubs’ objectives to retain their place at the helm.
