Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly told Neymar to snub interest from Manchester United and remain at Barcelona.
Spanish outlet Diario Gol have reported that Cristiano Ronaldo has been in touch with Neymar about the speculations linking him with a move to Manchester United, urging the Barcelona forward to remain at Camp Nou and snub interest from his former club.
Neymar joined Barcelona in 2013, after snubbing their fierce rivals Real Madrid in a transfer that continues to be a subject of controversy to this date. And after initial struggles at Camp Nou, he has established himself as one of the best footballers on the planet.
He has already won everything there is to win in European club competition, and is now starting to come into his own. His playmaking abilities have come to the fore this season, as Neymar has registered 23 assists in addition to 14 goals in just 35 matches across all competitions for Barcelona.
The highlight of his campaign was his match defining performance against Paris Saint-Germain as Neymar played a hand in each of the goals as Barcelona overturned a four-goal deficit to grab an unlikely win in the Champions League.
With Neymar having become one of the finest players gracing the game currently, there is no doubt that he is someone who can add a lot of value to just about any club in the world. One such club is Manchester United, who have been heavily linked with a move for the Brazilian international.
Recent reports have claimed that Jose Mourinho has made Neymar his number one target for the summer and is willing to do anything in order to secure his services, including paying a staggering €200 million release clause, as well as offering €25 million in wages.
With doubts over Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future at Old Trafford, there is a serious need for the Manchester United boss to look for ready made replacements, and who better than Neymar, who is already one of the best in his positions.
However, there is a former Manchester United man who is urging Neymar to reject his former club and continue his spell with Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo, who spent six illustrious years at Old Trafford has, according to the report, told Neymar to remain at Camp Nou.
The Real Madrid forward believes that Barcelona is still the right place for Neymar to blossom into the best footballer on the planet, and eventually succeed Lionel Messi as the Blaugrana’s talisman. He must, though, bide his time until Messi’s status goes on a decline.
It now remains to be seen if Neymar heeds the advice of his Real Madrid counterpart, but with the Brazilian showing no signs of being unsettled at Barcelona, it looks highly unlikely that he will be moving to Manchester United in the summer.
