Bayern Munich have reportedly asked Barcelona to cough up €90 million in order to secure the services of Thiago Alcantara in the summer.
Spanish publication Sport have reported that Bayern Munich have revealed their asking price for Thiago Alcantara, having slapped a €90 million price tag on the Spanish midfielders to rebuff the attempts of Barcelona to sign the former La Masia product.
Thiago Alcantara moved to Bayern Munich in a €25 million deal from Barcelona back in 2013, as one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe. However, his initial years were pegged back by a spate of injuries that hampered his growth.
He finally managed to get into his stride last season, as he carved out a regular place for himself in Pep Guardiola’s lineup, and 2016/17 has only seen Thiago grow from strength to strength. He has been deployed in an advanced midfield position by Carlo Ancelotti, which has brought the best out of him.
Having taken his game to the next level under Ancelotti, Thiago is starting to be rated as one of the best midfielders in the world, and that has seen his former club Barcelona spring into action in order to get him back to Camp Nou in the summer.
The Catalan club are eager to find a long-term replacement for Andres Iniesta and have taken steps to find a suitable candidate, who can help them to become a dominant force in the centre of the park. That candidate has been identified as Thiago, and it was reported that Barcelona are keen on signing him back in the summer.
However, Bayern boss, Ancelotti considers Thiago to be an indispensable part of his first team plans. He is unwilling to let the 25-year-old leave the Allianz Arena come June, as it is believed that the Italian tactician is planning to build his team around Thiago.
The Bavarian club have, thus, placed a staggering €90 million price tag on the Spanish international’s head, an amount they believe will be enough to push Barcelona to the back foot. Bayern will not negotiate the price, and the report states that it could result in Barcelona cooling off their interest in Thiago.
In fact, instead of going back to Barcelona in the summer, the report adds that Thiago could be all set to pen a new deal with Bayern. So a summer exit isn’t really an option for Thiago, and it looks almost certain that he would, in fact, remain at the Allianz Arena well beyond next season as well.
