Manchester City are confident of signing Danny Rose in the summer, with likely to target Luke Shaw as his replacement, as per reports.
According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is confident of landing Danny Rose from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. Additionally, Luke Shaw is likely to move to White Hart Lane from Manchester United as his replacement.
Rose has bloomed into one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League in recent years, having progressed tremendously under the tutelage of Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino. Known as a typical attacking left-back for many years, he has added defensive solidity to his game to grow into a complete defender.
The last two seasons have been the best in his senior career, with Rose playing a fundamental role in Tottenham boasting the best defensive record in the English top flight. In 2016/17, he has also netted 2 goals in addition to providing 3 assists.
His all round performances have now seen clubs showing an interest in signing Rose in the last few months. In particular, Manchester United and Manchester City have been eager to spark a cross city battle to land him, with clubs in China also registering an interest.
However, Manchester United seem to have cooled off in their interest for Rose, meaning City have taken the lead in pursuit of the 26-year-old. With manager Pep Guardiola keen to revamp his defence in the summer, Rose’s acquisition has been identified as the first step in City becoming formidable at the back.
Guardiola currently has Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov at his disposal for the left-back slot, neither of whom have been convincing enough this season. In fact, the report states that City are set to sell Clichy in the summer, and Rose offers a certain upgrade on Kolarov at left-back.
The report states that it would take £50 million for City to get their hands on Rose, having only penned a new four-and-a-half year deal recently. At 26, the England international could go on to become an invaluable part of the first-team setup at Etihad.
Should Rose move to the Etihad come June, Luke Shaw has been identified as the ideal player to replace him at the North London club.
Shaw has endured a testing season at Manchester United in the current campaign, having essentially fallen down to 4th choice in the pecking order behind the likes of Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian.
His campaign has been plagued by a glut of fitness issues and, as a result, he has made just seven starts in the Premier League all season. With opportunities hard to come by at Old Trafford, it is widely believed that the Englishman is growing frustrated and is ready to push for a move away from the club.
Recent reports, though, have indicated that Manchester United are not ready to let go of the talented defender just yet. But, if his situation continues to be mired in uncertainty, Shaw could be forced to move on from his torment, in which case Tottenham could pounce on the opportunity to land the talent.
Daniel Levy is believed to be a big fan of Shaw’s talents, and the report states that he could come at around of £20-30 million, a figure that is like gold dust keeping in mind Tottenham’s expenditure. And at 21, Shaw could also be a long-term solution at left-back for Pochettino.
It now remains to be seen how things develop in the coming months, but Rose and Shaw could be swapping cities if Manchester City and Tottenham have their way in the summer, with Manchester United coming off worse.
