Arsenal have reportedly joined the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid in the pursuit of Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Daily Mirror are claiming that Arsenal are the latest club to enter the race for Kasper Schmeichel. The Gunners are reportedly ready to rival Manchester United and Real Madrid in the summer pursuit of the Leicester City superstar, who looks set to depart the King Power Stadium, with three top clubs vying for his signature.
The report does not stop there as it goes on to say that Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of Kasper Schmeichel is a strong hint towards his possible stay and extension of his managerial career at Arsenal, which goes hand-in-hand with other reports of Wenger moving nearer towards an extension to stay at Emirates.
Kasper Schmeichel has really grown into a brilliant goalkeeper from his time at Manchester City. The player achieved the impossible with Leicester last season, as the impressive displays from him and other members of the squad saw the Foxes lift the Premier League trophy.
However, this season has been dull so far, with Leicester struggling, even to the extent that Claudio Ranieri was finally let go by the club, a move that brought much hatred towards the board and the players. Schmeichel, though, has been quietly sound between the posts for the Foxes.
His Champions League performances, especially, have drawn real praise and earned him the attention of Manchester United and Real Madrid. Los Blancos are set to replace Keylor Navas as the undisputed first choice at Santiago Bernabeu in the summer, with moves lined up for David De Gea and Thibaut Courtois.
However, Kasper Schmeichel would provide them with a cheaper alternative and also a goalkeeper who is likely to be a more realistic and achievable target.
Manchester United, on the other hand, are preparing for the contingency of David De Gea departing the club in the summer. While the Red Devils have been linked with Gianluigi Donnarumma of late, the player is likely to command an astronomical transfer fee and United would have to compete with literally every top club.

Kasper Schmeichel could be lured in by United with the prospect of following in his father’s footsteps at Old Trafford, something which the goalkeeper may have had dreams about growing up.
But, now it seems Arsenal have entered the race as well. The Gunners have been frustrated by the lack of class goalkeeping options, a problem which was thought to be cured by the arrival of Petr Cech. But, the former Chelsea superstar has failed to impress much at Emirates, with some shoddy displays and nervy performances.
Hence, Arsenal are now set to delve into the market for a keeper in the summer and Schmeichel could just be the man to alleviate the goalkeeping uncertainty looming over Emirates.
However, Arsenal will have to battle it out with Manchester United and Real Madrid and it would be intriguing to see if the Gunners can beat the supremely high-spending duo to Kasper Schmeichel.
