Sevilla forward Vitolo has said that he would be open to a move to Barcelona amid interest from the Catalan club.

Vitolo has admitted that it is nice to be linked with a club like Barcelona, and has said that he would be open to a switch to Camp Nou from Sevilla if the Blaugrana came calling for his signature in the future.

Vitolo was speaking in an interview with Marca when he was asked about Barcelona’s potential interest in signing him in the summer. He said: “Who would not want to play for one of Spain’s biggest teams? It would be nice – they are always linked with a lot of names and you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

However, he also added that he would not be forcing his way through to Barcelona, insisting that he is happy at Sevilla right now. He continued: “I am calm because I am very comfortable at Sevilla; they treat me very well and I am happy here.”

Vitolo progressed through the ranks at Las Palmas before making his first team debut for the then-Spanish second division side in 2010. He subsequently moved to Sevilla in 2013 and he has blossomed into one of the most consistent performers in La Liga since the switch to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

An ever present in attack for Los Nervionenses, Vitolo has been one of the most in-form players in manager Jorge Sampaoli’s team. The 27-year-old has played 37 times in all competitions for Sevilla this season, bagging 4 goals and 7 assists.

Vitolo has made quite the impression with his marauding runs down the right flank, and his performances have been a key factor in Sevilla sustaining their challenge for the La Liga title for large parts of the season before their form petered out in recent weeks.

Marca have reported that Vitolo features prominently on Barcelona Secretary Robert Fernandez’s agenda and is now attracting interest from the Spanish champions. The club is eager to reinforce the right wing position in the summer with a view to moving Lionel Messi to a more central position.

They have, thus, been linked with the likes of Ousmane Dembele and former La Masia graduate Gerard Deulofeu, with Vitolo the latest player to have emerged as a possible target. With Vitolo’s best years ahead of him, he could prove to be an ideal option for the club to consider for the summer.

The Sevilla winger has €40 million release clause in his deal, but that figure can be lowered if Barcelona enter negotiations to sign him. It now remains to be seen how things develop further in the coming months and if Barcelona take their interest in Vitolo any further.
