Atletico Madrid star forward Antoine Griezmann has refused to rule out a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona in the future.
Antoine Griezmann has said that he would not rule out leaving Atletico Madrid to play for a club like Real Madrid or Barcelona in the future, but has insisted that he is happy at the Vicente Calderon for now and is not looking to move away any time soon.
Speaking in an online chat with fans organised by L’Equipe, Griezmann was adamant that he is currently content with life as an Atletico Madrid player, while adding that he dreamt of moving to a ‘big club’ in the future.
“Could I play for Real Madrid or Barcelona in the future? Why not,” Griezmann said when asked about a hypothetical move to Real Madrid or Barcelona. “It is every player’s dream to play for a big club like those two or for Bayern Munich.”
He did go on to add that while it was his dream to play for a bigger club, he does not see himself leaving Atletico in the summer.
He continued: “But I cannot see myself at Barca or Madrid at this stage, nor at any other club. I am happy where I am now. But I cannot see myself at Barca or Madrid at this stage, nor at any other club. I am happy where I am now.”
Griezmann has evolved into one of the best players in the world since moving to Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad in a £24 million deal in 2014. In the three years that have followed, the 26-year-old has established himself has elevated his performance levels to be counted at par with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
He enjoyed his most productive senior campaign last season, as he netted 32 goals in all competitions for Atletico before ending the European Championships last year as the tournament’s top scorer. And 2016/17 has seen Griezmann match similarly high levels of performance.
In what has been a stuttering season for Atletico, Griezmann has continued to grow from strength to strength, scoring 22 goals while providing 11 assists in 40 matches in all competitions. With the French international being one of the most potent forwards in the world, he has become one of the most highly sought after players in Europe.
The likes of Inter Milan, Arsenal and Real Madrid have all registered an interest in Griezmann, while he has been heavily linked with a summer move to Manchester United. However, the player’s comments are set to deal all his suitors a hammer blow in their chase to sign him.
But, he could also prove to be a long-term solution in attack for both Real Madrid and Barcelona in the coming years, with Griezmann himself admitting that he would be open to a move in the future. For now though, he is not going anywhere as he is content with his Atletico career currently.
