Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes his side could have achieved all three points against Manchester City on Sunday.

Manchester City and Liverpool were involved in a hard fought and entertaining draw on Sunday. Both teams played an attacking brand of football and got on the scoresheet, but disappointingly for the neutral, it was a game of only two goals.

Liverpool took the lead thanks to a coolly converted penalty from James Milner after Roberto Firmino was brought down in the box by a clumsy Gael Clichy. However, the lead did not last long.

Sergio Aguero was highly disappointing in the first half as he struggled to find space inside the Liverpool penalty area. But he was up to the ask in the second period, and brought City back on level terms with a goal in the 69th minute.

Kevin de Bruyne played an inch-perfect cross which the Argentine dispatched with aplomb, and gave City the impetus to push on for the win. However, Liverpool held on, and took away a hard fought point from the game.

Although it appeared to be a good result for them, manager Jurgen Klopp admitted to being slightly disappointed with a point. In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, the German highlighted the aforementioned feeling.

” If I was to make an assessment then I would say ‘if you took a point at Manchester City then that would be okay’. It is a point and that’s good. Tomorrow I will be happy but in this moment I am a little bit disappointed, not too much but a little bit.”

Midfielder Adam Lallana could have won the game for the Reds in the dying stages, but he failed to capitalise from point-blank range, leaving the Liverpool fans in attendance highly disappointed.

When asked about his miss, Klopp stated, ” Obviously he’s one of the best – if not the best – player, technical-wise, I have ever worked with. If he couldn’t [score] in this moment, I thought it was because he worked so hard before.

” Adam said ‘sorry’ to me and I thought ‘why?’ – but now I know why he thought he had to say sorry. But he didn’t have to because his performance was outstanding again.”

The result added a point apiece to the kitty of Manchester City and Liverpool as they retained their third and fourth positions respectively, on the Premier League table. City travel to Arsenal next while Liverpool play host to Everton on the 1st of April.
