Barcelona have rekindled their interest in French teenage sensation Ousmane Dembele, as per reports.
Spanish journal Mundo Deportivo have reported that Barcelona are ready to renew their interest in French teenager Ousmane Demebele and are considering launching a summer move for the Borussia Dortmund forward.
Dembele emerged as one of the most exciting young prospects in Europe having progressed through the ranks at Rennes before establishing himself in the first team setup last season. His impressive performances earned him a move to Borussia Dortmund and he has enjoyed a stellar debut season in the Bundesliga.
Still only 19, Dembele has played 36 times in all competitions for Dortmund this season, scoring seven goals while providing 16 assists. The youngster has managed to establish himself as a key player under Thomas Tuchel, who has been deprived of the services of club captain Marco Reus for large parts of the season.
With Reus ruled out with a hamstring injury until April, the onus has fallen on Dembele yet again, who has linked up superbly with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this season. But, his promising performances have caught the eye of one of Europe’s biggest clubs, who are eyeing a summer move for the player.
Barcelona technical director Robert Fernandez has monitored the 19-year-old on several occasions in recent months and the Catalan club are now seriously considering a summer move, having been snubbed by him last summer.
Dembele presented concerns about becoming a regular on the bench at Camp Nou, and thus opted for the move to the Westfalenstadion instead in search of regular first team football. Indeed, his choice has been vindicated as he has been a regular figure in Tuchel’s first team plans.
But Barcelona have plans to offer Dembele more assurances of opportunities with the first team this time around. That is because, a change in system is on the cards at Camp Nou that will see Lionel Messi move to a more central position in attack, leaving a spot open on the right wing.
That is why the Blaugrana are confident that they can make a case for themselves this season, with Dembele providing a long-term solution in attack, with his explosive burst of pace and pin-point crossing.
However, Dembele, who has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid, has made it clear that he is happy at Dortmund, and a move to Spain looks highly unlikely at the moment.
