Transfer News: Borussia Dortmund enter chase for Liverpool target Inaki Williams

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly set to rival Liverpool and Juventus in the summer pursuit of Athletic Bilbao superstar Inaki Williams

Italian publication Calciomercato are reporting that Borussia Dortmund are also interested in Atheltic Bilbao superstar Inaki Williams. The Spaniard has been heavily linked with the likes of Liverpool and Juventus of late. But, Thomas Tuchel’s side seem to have joined them in Inaki’s pursuit.

Inaki Williams has always been highly-rated within Spain and at Athletic Bilbao. The player is one of the rare gems to emerge from the local Basque region still present in the Bilbao squad alongside Iker Muniain, something that the club is really proud of.

And both Munian and Inaki have been the focal points of Bilbao’s attacks this season, with Muniain donning the left wing while Inaki terrorizing the opposition defenders from the right side of attack, ably supporting Aritz Aduriz.

Inaki’s return of 5 goals and 7 assists this season make for good reading and this has brought forth interest from the likes of Juventus and Liverpool. The player stated earlier in 2016 that he is happy at Athletic Bilbao, but that hasn’t stopped the duo from pursuing the Spaniard.

Liverpool have been on the lookout for an addition to their attack, with the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Demarai Gray linked with a move to Anfield, especially with rumours floating around of a possible exit on the cards for Coutinho, who is on the radar of Barcelona among others.

Liverpool were reported to be prepared to meet the €50 million release clause that is present in Inaki’s contract. But, Juventus joined the race as the Bianconeri continue to look for reinforcements for their wing areas. Juan Cuadrado has been immense this season, but the Old Lady are still seeking another addition to the department.

And now Borussia Dortmund have joined the list. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with an exit from the club and Calciomercato report Thomas Tuchel’s side are eyeing a deal for Inaki Williams as a potential successor to Aubameyang.

While Inaki is a natural left-winger, he has played mostly at the right side of the attack this season and also has been deployed as a central forward multiple times in his career. So, should he join Borussia Dortmund in the summer, there would not be much of a problem in transitioning to a more central role for Inaki.

Bilbao are known to be tough negotiators, especially when it comes to selling a player that has emerged from the Basque region. And the same is expected to be the case with the 22-year-old Spanish international, which means the three clubs would have to meet the €50 million buyout clause to land the attacker.

The fee, though, could be worth it. All of 22, Inaki has already making waves in Europe and could really be the next one to make the jump from a brilliant prospect to a superstar.
