Tottenham Hotspur sent scouts to watch young Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans in action on Thursday, as per reports.
According to a report from Daily Mail, Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans is being monitored by Tottenham Hotspur. The North London club scouted the highly rated Belgian teenager during Anderlecht’s Europa League tie against Zenit St Petersburg on Thursday.
Belgium, of late, has become a factory line producing some of the most talented players in the world. The likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois and Romelu Lukaku, among others, have been a testament to that. And there’s one more player who has been capturing the imagination of fans and pundits alike – Youri Tielemans.
Tielemans has practically been with Anderlecht ever since he started playing football, as he joined the club’s academy as a five-year-old. Fifteen years on, and he has made quite an impression despite coming from an academy that produced stalwarts like Lukaku and Vincent Kompany.
Still only 19, Tielemans has already notched up more than 150 appearances for Anderlecht, and has been capped by his national team as well. And despite his tender age, Tielemans has shown remarkable passing range and an ability to take shots from range, making him a promising box-to-box player.
This season, Tielemans has shown more improvement, being an ever present for Anderlecht and bagging 14 goals and 9 assists in 35 matches in all competitions. His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with several clubs registering an interest in him and having him scouted over the years.
Tottenham, though, have shown the most concrete of interest in Tielemans and the North London club sent scouts to watch him in action once again this week, as the teenager skippered Anderlecht against Zenit St Petersburg on Thursday.
Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy has had a policy of recruiting young prospect in recent seasons, with the promising players fitting Mauricio Pochettino’s philosophy as well. This has evidenced by the acquisition of the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou in the last two seasons, and Tielemans fits the bill perfectly.
With Pochettino already having Tieleman’s compatriots, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele, at White Hart Lane, the teenager could be lured in easily in case the Lilywhites make a move for him in the summer. It now remains to be seen if they make their interest concrete or wait a little while longer before making a move for him.
