Manchester United and Liverpool are set to go head-to-head in the summer in pursuit of Bordeaux forward Malcom, as per reports.

The Sun have reported that Manchester United and Liverpool are all set to indulge in a tug of war in the summer transfer window for Bordeaux’s highly-rated Brazilian forward Malcom. The 19-year-old has been previously watched by several European heavyweights including Chelsea, Juventus, AS Roma and others.

Malcom is highly-rated teenage Brazilian sensation whose stock continues to rise by the week in Europe. Signed by Bordeaux in January 2016 for €5 million from Corinthians, the 19-year-old is well and truly starting to come into his own in France, with impressive showings for Les Girondins.

The teenager has made a mark with his versatility as he has shown that he is equally adept at playing across various positions in attack, although he prefers to play on the right wing. Alongside that, Malcom has also impressed with his work-rate with his tireless runs up and down the pitch helping Bordeaux on both ends.

And while Malcom has been inconsistent at times, his manager Jocelyn Gourvennec has time and again indicated that he is willing to be patient with the youngster’s progress. Having said that, he has already become integral in Bordeaux’s first team setup, having played all but 1 game in Ligue 1 this season, scoring 4 goals and assisting another.

Surely enough, Malcom’s exploits have sparked interest in him, with the likes of Chelsea, Juventus, AS Roma, Inter Milan, Sevilla and AS Monaco all scouting him in recent months and eyeing the 19-year-old for a possible move.

In fact, scouts from several clubs across Europe were present at Stade de Bordeaux, as Les Girondins lost to PSG on Friday, to watch Malcom. Chief among the interested parties now, though, are Manchester United and Liverpool who look set to lock horns in the summer in order to sign Malcom.

The report from The Sun states that both Manchester United and Liverpool are looking to add attacking reinforcements in the summer, and have identified Malcom as a viable target.

Indeed Manchester United have been linked with the likes of Bernardo Silva, Yannick Carrasco and Antoine Griezmann for a summer move, while Liverpool are rumoured to be in pursuit of Inaki Williams.

Malcom’s contract with Bordeaux runs till 2020, and he wouldn’t come cheap but that should not deter either of the sides as they have identified that an attacking addition is a priority for the summer. However, there could be one possible obstacle.

Malcom has indicated on several occasions that he wants to play Champions League football whenever he makes the move to a big club. Should either of these clubs miss out on Champions League qualification, they could lose out in the race to sign Malcom.

It now remains to be seen if any of these sides can land the highly-rated attacking sensation in the summer.
