Petr Cech will not leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window, with the goalkeeper’s future at the North London club in no doubt, according to his agent.
Petr Cech’s agent Viktor Kolar has ruled out a move away from Arsenal in the summer, insisting that his client’s position at the North London club is secure. Kolar was adamant that Cech will continue to represent Arsenal until at least 2019, when his contract with the Gunners runs out.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Kolar was quoted as saying in a statement to the media in Cech’s native Czech Republic, “Petr’s position at the club is very secure and a summer transfer can be ruled out. Petr will be part of Arsenal until at least the end of his current contract and I am convinced that he will continue to have a leadership role in the team.”
Cech was a popular addition to the Arsenal squad in the 2015/16 season as he came with a reputation of being one of the best goalkeepers in the world. And surely enough, he proved that as he was a pivotal figure for the Gunners on a number of occasions throughout the season and ended up winning the Golden Glove for keeping the most clean sheets.
The 2016/17 season, though, hasn’t been as convincing as the past campaigns for Petr Cech. Far from it, in fact. Usually regarded as a solid and commanding presence between the sticks for his side, Cech has, at times, looked a pale shadow dominating best inside his box this season.
The former Czech Republic captain has been guilty of making one too many error on quite a few instances, with one such notable mistake coming against former club Chelsea, as he gifted Cesc Fabregas an open goal with Arsenal losing 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.
On top of that, the 34-year-old has also come under scrutiny for not protecting his near post and leaking several goals from that area as well, leading many Arsenal supporters to question whether he was past his prime.
Then came the speculation linking on-loan Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart with a move to Arsenal last week, with reports claiming that the Gunners were all set to rival Chelsea and Liverpool to acquire the services of the England number one.
Wojciech Szczesny is also expected to return to Arsenal at the end of the season, once his loan spell at AS Roma ends, and all this seemed to have put Cech’s future at the Emirates Stadium under doubt.
However, as per his agent, Cech is set to remain at Arsenal and the former Chelsea goalkeeper will be turning his attention towards the Champions League as the Gunners prepare to face a crunch clash against Bayern Munich in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.
