David De Gea has remained coy on his future at Manchester United after reports of interest from Real Madrid in the Spaniard emerged this week.

David De Gea has refused to rule out a move away from Manchester United even though he is ‘very happy’ at Old Trafford. The comments from the goalkeeper come in just as reports of interest from Real Madrid to sign the Spain number one have started emerging this week.

Speaking to Spanish publication AS, De Gea admitted that he is very happy at Manchester United but doesn’t know what the future holds for him. He said, “The future nobody knows. The future is the future. I’m very happy here, it’s a great club. In England, football is enjoyed a lot.”

When prodded upon specifically about Real Madrid’s reported interest in him, though, De Gea refused to be drawn on the speculation and said that he remains focused on the job at Manchester United. He added, “I’m not going to talk about that. I‘m not going to talk about that subject now. I just have to keep focused on my club.”

De Gea’s comments come in the wake of reports surfacing that Real Madrid have renewed their interest in the Manchester United goalkeeper, with Los Blancos preparing a bid of €65 million to trigger what they believe to be his release clause and secure the Spaniard’s transfer to Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.

Parallel reports this week also claimed that Thibaut Courtois is pushing for a summer move to Real Madrid. But those reports also stated that De Gea is the first choice for the La Liga leaders and they will only move on to the Chelsea goalkeeper, if they fail to acquire the services of his Manchester United counterpart.

De Gea has been one of the most pivotal figures for Manchester United in recent seasons, with his superlative performances between the sticks for the Red Devils often being game changing. In fact, he has been so good for the English giants in the last few years that he has ended up winning the club’s Player of the Year for each of the last three seasons.

He has been at his best yet again this season, with match defining performances against the likes of Liverpool and West Ham United proving just how important he is for Manchester United despite the presence of stalwarts like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, among others.

Suffice to say, he is one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the world currently and his performances for Manchester United have seen Real Madrid rekindle their interest in him after failing to land their target man in 2015 due to failed paperwork at the eleventh hour.

Manchester United had looked set to lose their man back then, and they will face a tough task yet again if Real Madrid come all guns blazing in the summer for his acquisition. For now, though, De Gea remains a key figure for Jose Mourinho who will fight tooth and nail to keep hold of his side’s number one.
