Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly still undecided on his Manchester United future, and wants to focus on getting the Red Devils back to the Champions League.
The Sun have reported that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still undecided on his future with Manchester United beyond this season, with the Swedish superstar indicating that he has his focus solely set on getting the Red Devils back into the Champions League.
It has been just over seven months since Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his first foray into English football by joining Manchester United, and he has already turned into the team’s talisman.
Making a delayed entry into England after successful spells with the likes of Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, he was snapped up by Manchester United on a free transfer.
Despite arriving with a reputation of being a world class striker with an undeniable aura, there were doubts about his ability to settle quickly in England and match his goalscoring records through the season.
However, we are just over the half-stage of his first season with Manchester United, and Ibrahimovic has surpassed Anthony Martial’s tally of 17 from last season, when he ended up as the club’s top scorer, having already netted 20 goals in all competitions. In addition to that, Ibrahimovic also has seven assists in 30 appearances.
Suffice to say, the superstar striker has established himself as the talisman of the team’s attack. And the club is keen to offer Ibrahimovic a two-year extension on his contract, having originally signed him on a one-year deal this past summer.
However, the Swede’s agent Mino Raiola hinted last month that Ibrahimovic could be on his way back to Serie A and join Napoli, with the striker having close ties with the club’s president with Aurelio De Laurentiis and “in love with Naples”.
Ibrahimovic, however, revealed in an interview said that he is only focused on guiding Manchester United back to the Champions League at the moment. “We’re working hard and we really want to reach the top four and the Champions League. We are back in the hunt. It was a big gap a couple of months ago.”
Manchester United currently sit sixth on the Premier League table, two points behind fourth placed Arsenal. They have been tough to beat in the last few months and are in the middle of a 15 match unbeaten run, which is the best in any of the top five leagues in Europe.
As the season enters its most crucial juncture, and with fixtures piling up, the focus would be on continuing the momentum and regain a place in the top four, having been sixth for 65 days in a row now. At least that is what the Swede is aiming at, for now, at the very least.
