Arsene Wenger has admitted that Arsenal are tracking the progress of Monaco prodigy Kylian Mbappe, who has been dubbed ‘the next Thierry Henry’.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed his interest in Kylian Mbappe to beIN Sports, admitting that the North London club is tracking the progress of the AS Monaco prodigy, who has been dubbed the ‘next Thierry Henry’.

Wenger said,”Mbappe is like Henry, maybe not exactly, but it is true that he has similar qualities. The talent and potential is similar. It now depends on whether he has the same desire, intelligence and motivation that Thierry had. The next two or three years will tell us that. But the first signs are very promising.”

“Yes, of course we are following him. We know him very well. He is a guy who is electric, like Thierry was. He can dribble and go past people and is efficient. He could be another Henry. He is developing well. I think he extended his contract with Monaco last season, so Monaco will decide his future.”

Kylian Mbappe has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in European football in the last two years, having risen through the ranks at AS Monaco before making his debut for the senior team at the age of 16.

Having impressed right from the youth ranks at a club where Thierry Henry first made his mark before etching his name in the footballing history, it wasn’t long before Mbappe was compared with the legendary striker.

Displaying tremendous potential, Mbappe is a bagful of tricks and has made a mark with his quick feet, darting runs and superb vision. The comparisons only grew as the 18-year-old became Monaco’s youngest player and scorer last season, breaking records that were previously held by Henry.

This season, though, Mbappe’s stock has risen further, with the teenage sensation establishing himself as a regular under Leonardo Jardim, having signed his first professional contract. He has recorded 6 goals and 7 assists in 19 games all competitions, scoring a goal every 120 minutes, numbers that make for good reading.

Suffice to say, Mbappe has played a key role in Monaco’s reinstatement as Ligue 1 contenders as they sit on top of the league table currently. And, his performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with several clubs across Europe, including the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus being linked with the forward.

Arsenal, though, are the first club to confirm their interest in the exciting 18-year-old, and with Henry being a prime example of how Arsene Wenger can successfully develop highly rated talents into world class players, Mbappe could become another success story at the Emirates Stadium.
