Real Betis left-back Riza Durmisi open to potential Anfield switch, to seek Liverpool advice from Daniel Agger

Liverpool target Riza Durmisi has admitted that he could be open to a move to Anfield, and that he would seek Daniel Agger’s advice if the Reds bid for him

Real Betis left-back Riza Durmisi has said that he is aware of Liverpool’s interest in him. The Danish international admitted that he would be willing to listen to offers if any from the Merseyside club came his way, while insisting that he’s happy at Real Betis currently.

Speaking to Danish publication BT, Durmisi said: “I know about Liverpool’s interest. There will always be a lot of talk when you are playing in one of the world’s best leagues. However, it should not of course change my focus on fighting for Betis.

“I am already in a big club and people who know what Betis stands for know it is a huge traditional club. So I am in no way desperate to get away. If other clubs are ready to pay, and if Betis will sell me, I will of course listen to the offer. This applies to Liverpool. Anything else would be idiocy.”

Durmisi was also asked if he has spoken to former Liverpool player Daniel Agger, a revered figure at Anfield and a former teammate of the defender, about a possible move to England, and the 23-year-old said that he would seek his advice whenever the Reds came calling.

Durmisi added: “When we were in Brondby, we talked about how it was to be in Liverpool. But it’s not something we’ve talked about this time. Agger thinks that Liverpool is the world’s biggest club, and that’s why he was there for over eight years. If Liverpool’s interest is concrete, I shall talk to Agger first.”

Riza Durmisi is a 23-year-old Danish left-back who plays for Real Betis in the La Liga. The Copenhagen-born defender has made waves since his £1.7 million move to Spain from Brondby this past summer, having firmly established in the first team plans having made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Seville club.

The left-back, who has played 15 games for his national outfit is not just solid at the back, but has also proven himself to be equally adept going forward with his strong delivery from the flanks. Durmisi has also impressed with his versatility, as he has shown that he can be equally effective as a left wing-back as well as in an advanced midfield role.

Durmisi signed a long-term deal with the Spanish club with the contract running through to the end of the 2020/21 season, and with a release clause worth £17 million.

His exploits for Brondby and Betis have seen him being linked with a move to Liverpool. However, the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp insisted earlier this month that the Merseyside club are not interested in signing a left-back in the near future.

It is also important to note, though, that midfielder-turned-left-back James Milner has started to show signs of fatigue in recent weeks. With Klopp not favouring Alberto Moreno on the left side of his team’s defence, and with a potential European participation in 2017/18 looming large, a move could be in the offing in the summer.

For now, though, Liverpool’s reported interest in Durmisi remains purely speculative and it remains to be seen whether Klopp deems it fit to enter the market for a left-back in the summer.
