Chelsea open talks with Schalke full-back and Juventus target Sead Kolasinac

Chelsea are still on the hunt for defensive reinforcements this winter, and they have now initiated talks with Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac

Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato have stated in an exclusive report that the Blues have entered into preliminary talks with Kolasinac’s representatives, as manager Antonio Conte looks to beat his former side Juventus to the 23-year-old.

The source of this information is one of the most reputed and reliable Italian football journalists in Fabirizio Romano.

Juve have long been linked with a move for Kolasinac, and with Frenchman Patrice Evra joining Marseille recently, their need for cover in that position has only increased. The report states that the Old Lady already have a verbal agreement with the player, but it’s still far from being a done deal.

According to the report, Juventus have offered Schalke €5 million for the Bosnian defender, who will become a free agent in the summer.

However, Die Knappen have blocked the move due to an injury to their other left-back Baba Rahman, coincidentally a former Chelsea player, with whom Kolasinac has been competing for a starting berth.

Chelsea are believed to be very keen on defensive reinforcements this winter, with their squad looking thin despite the fine performances that have seen them sit tight at the top spot of the Premier League table.

There is virtually no cover for the two marauding full-backs Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso, which leaves the Blues open to punishment should one of the pair get injured. This is a big problem that Conte has to deal with, and it now looks like he will try to get one over his former employers.

Sead Kolasinac is one of the most promising young full-backs in the Bundesliga right now. He has made 13 appearances in the league, showing defensive stability as well as chipping in with two goals and four assists.

The 23-year-old is a top talent and has attracted interest from a number of the top clubs in Europe. It now looks like the two leading teams in the Serie A and Premier League will battle it out for his signature in the dying days of the January transfer window.
