Manchester United are reportedly showing interest in Antoine Griezmann’s club and country teammate Kevin Gameiro but face competition from PSG.
Spanish publication Don Balon have revealed that Manchester United are interested in Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro, who is also on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain. The Red Devils have already reached a verbal agreement with Antoine Griezmann for a summer move but it looks they are far from done.
Antoine Griezmann has really been a priority target for Manchester United and the French superstar, who has revealed earlier that he would love to play with international teammate Paul Pogba at club level could be set to do just that.
The Red Devils see Griezmann as the perfect player to replace club captain Wayne Rooney and the one who could restore the legacy of the number 7 jersey after the recent signings of Angel Di Maria and Memphis Depay have failed to live up to the legendary shirt.
But it seems United are not done with the raid on Atletico Madrid as they have also been credited with interest in the 29-year-old French striker Kevin Gameiro. Los Rojiblancos had defeated Barcelona in the race to sign Gameiro last summer.
- The 29-year-old has performed well for Diego Simeone with 6 goals and 4 assists to his name in La Liga Santander. The player has a €60 million release clause embedded in his contract, a fee United or PSG will not balk at.
PSG have been searching for a striker to ably support Edinson Cavani and with Jese Rodriguez failing to capture form under Unai Emery, they could do with a striker of Gameiro’s calibre. PSG have been linked with a move for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, who has been in a contract standoff at Emirates.
But should the Chilean commit to a new deal to stay in England, the French giants will have to shift their attention elsewhere. And it seems they already looking for other options, with Gameiro eyed for a summer move.
Lest people forget, Gameiro did spend some time at Paris Saint-Germain and had a mildly successful time at Parc Des Princes. 23 goals and 5 assists in 77 matches for the French giants does make for good reading. Good, but not great.
But the player has since established himself as one of the more prolific strikers in Europe and could be tempted to return to his former club and to his home nation, which could hand PSG a slight advantage over Manchester United.
Also, United already have the likes of Zlatan and Rashford up-front. And with the addition of Griezmann becoming more likely with each passing day, it is uncertain as to how Mourinho would be able to make room for the 29-year-old, something which will not be too much of a problem at PSG.
