Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a summer deal for Sassuolo magician Domenico Berardi.
Italian publication Gazzetta di Modena have claimed that Liverpool are interested in exciting Sassuolo winger Domenico Berardi. The Italian has been on the radar of a host of top European clubs like Juventus, Inter Milan and Barcelona, and it seems Liverpool have joined the long list of admirers.
Berardi is a 22-year-old Italy international who came through the ranks at Sassuolo. The player has been making waves across the Serie A with his prodigious talent.
Berardi recorded numbers of 16 goals and 6 assists in his debut senior season with Sassuolo in the 2013-14 campaign, unprecedented numbers for a winger. He followed it up with 15 goals and 10 assists in the next season, establishing himself as a wondrous talent in the world of football.
The Italian’s numbers were somewhat subdued last season, with seven goals and six assists to his name, and he has been unfortunately restricted this season due injury issues. The player has still bagged two goals in three Serie A games, while recording a return of five goals and one assist in four Europa League games for the Italian outfit.
His numbers make for excellent reading and any top European team would look to add such a prolific winger to their roster. Jurgen Klopp is always seeking exciting young additions to his squad at Anfield and has now shifted their interest to the explosive star, with reports of a summer move lined up for the 22-year-old.
Liverpool’s attack has been on song, and that has also caught the attention of the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. The two European giants have honed in on perhaps two of the Reds’ most influential attacking outlets, Coutinho and Adam Lallana.
While Lallana doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, the same cannot be said about the Brazilian. One could see Coutinho ending up with Barcelona, given their status in world football today. In such a scenario, Klopp would have to look for players to fill the wide-forward slot.
It is believed Sassuolo are likely to demand a fee in the region of €25 million for the player. This is only if they are seriously considering the sale of the 22-year-old, which does not seem to be the case right now. The mentioned fee is unlikely to cause trouble in Klopp’s pursuit of Berardi.
The player is predominantly a left-winger, but can play across all the three forward positions and his flexibility will definitely pique Klopp’s interest in him further. Klopp likes players who can adjust to different roles, something he has already shown, deploying Firmino and Lallana in varied positions with the desired effects on almost every occasion.
Liverpool will face heavy competition for the player though. The likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Inter Milan were all linked with Berardi in the summer of 2016 and may reignite their interest in 2017 as well.
However, right now it is imperative for Berardi to regain fitness and reach the heights of his first couple of seasons, something which may also cause his asking price to rise in the summer.
