Out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez reportedly has offers from three Chinese Super League clubs on his table
Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda of ‘El Chiringuito’ (h/t Sport) has reported that the representatives of Real Madrid misfit James Rodriguez, who is also a target for Manchester United, have received three offers from Chinese Super League clubs that are “worth a fortune”.
James Rodriguez was the hot property in Europe after an impressive showing in the 2014 FIFA World Cup for Colombia saw him winning the Golden Ball for being the best player in the tournament. Those exploits saw him seal a dream £63 million move to Real Madrid from AS Monaco.
His start at the Santiago Bernabeu was steady, as Rodriguez scored 13 goals in 29 league starts for his side in his first season, before the appointment of Zinedine Zidane saw him become a bit part player at the start of 2016.
This season hasn’t been any better, as Rodriguez has fallen out of favour with his French boss. The Colombia international has started just a paltry four games in La Liga thus far, as he has lost out in the competition for one midfield place to the likes of Isco, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez.
Last week, Rodriguez was handed a rare start by Zidane last week as Real Madrid thumped Sevilla 3-0 in a Copa Del Rey last 16 match. However, after scoring a brace in the midweek encounter, he was back on the bench as Los Blancos enjoyed a 5-0 rout of Granada on the weekend.
This led to reports earlier this week that Rodriguez had fallen out with his manager and was ready to force a move away from Santiago Bernabeu, by issuing a ‘come and get me’ plea to Manchester United.
However, the report from Inda entails that Manchester United are all set to face competition in their pursuit of Rodriguez, with the Colombia international the latest big name player on the radar of Chinese Super League clubs.
Hebei China Fortune, Guangzhou Evergrande and Shanghai Shenhua are the three clubs and the outfits are preparing to capitalise on a €50 million clause in Rodriguez’s contract at Real Madrid, offering him a lucrative deal to lure him away to the emerging footballing nation.
This transfer saga has suddenly taken on an interesting turn, and the Chinese juggernaut doesn’t look like stopping any time soon. If Manchester United want to get their man to Old Trafford, they face some stiff competition from three Chinese clubs.
