Liverpool have set a price tag of £20 million for Mamadou Sakho, with La Liga side Sevilla reportedly interested in signing the outcast defender.

ESPN have reported that Liverpool will demand a fee of £20 million for Mamadou Sakho, who has fallen out of favour at Anfield this season. They also added that the Reds intend to sell the defender in the January transfer window, with Spanish outfit Sevilla making an approach for the Frenchman.

Sakho was one of the most highly rated defenders at PSG, as he rapidly rose up the ranks to become the club captain at the tender age of 17. He enjoyed six successful seasons at the senior level at the Parc des Princes before sealing a move to Liverpool in 2013.

After moving to Anfield, Sakho quickly established himself at the heart of the Liverpool defence and was one of the key figures under Brendan Rodgers. However, things started taking a turn for the worse post the sacking of the current Celtic boss.

Even though Sakho was a regular to begin with under Jurgen Klopp, the Frenchman soon found himself out of the Liverpool team after he was suspended for 30 days by UEFA for failing a drug test. He was cleared of all the charges, but trouble didn’t leave his side.

Sakho was sent back home from Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States for delaying the team’s departure from England, missing a training session and failing to show up for a team dinner. Things reached a head a couple of months later, as Sakho went on a social media rant which saw fans calling for the end of his Liverpool career.

All this has seen Sakho fall out of favour at Liverpool this season, as the Frenchman hasn’t managed to play a single minute of football for the first team. Instead, he’s been training and playing for the club’s under-23 team.

The reports from ESPN states that Liverpool want to sell Sakho for more than the £18 million they paid PSG to acquire the defender’s services, insisting that the demand for central defenders all through Europe justifies the price tag.

Sakho himself wants to move on, and with Sevilla approaching Liverpool about signing him, the Frenchman could soon be on his way out of Anfield.
