Manchester United striker has said that, much like red wine, he’s getting better with age, and even went on to claim that he could go on to play till he’s 50.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic just can’t stop scoring at the moment. The struggles of late September and October seem like they were an exception, as ten goals from his last nine appearances for Manchester United show that the star striker is well and truly back to his best.

A double against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday night took his tally for the season to 16 goals in 25 games in all competitions, sixteen goals that are worth their weight in gold for the Red Devils. Speaking to reporters, according to the Guardian, Ibrahimovic was at his inimitable best as he said: “The older I get, the better I get, like red wine. You like red wine? I’m a perfect example of that.”

Acknowledging that he’s started settling in to life in England, Ibrahimovic said that he feels much younger than his age, before joking that he could still be on the field when he’s 50.

He continued: “I’m settling in and I feel happy, I feel good. Even if I’m 35, in my mind I’m 20. I think I could play at 50. I’ve played in different championships, in different countries, and you need to adapt your body to the game and the way it’s played here.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has impressed even the harshest of critics, who reckoned that he was too old to take on the challenges presented by English football with his fitness. After breaking the power records during his Manchester United medical earlier in the summer, he has managed to last the entirety of each and every game he’s started this season, even as he continues to settle in England.

With his influence being so unmistakable for Manchester United this season, Jose Mourinho and the United hierarchy will be hoping that the Swede takes up the option to extend his stay at Old Trafford for an additional season.

And while Mourinho has admitted that he’s confident that his star man will remain in Manchester next season as well, concerns over Ibrahimovic snubbing a contract extension remain among the Old Trafford faithful.

For now though, the Manchester United supporters are relishing Ibrahimovic’s exploits as the leader of the team’s attack, and they will be hoping that he continue his prolific goalscoring run as Jose Mourinho’s side chase a spot in the top 4.
