Transfer Rumour: Liverpool FC could make a move for out of favour Inter forward Gabriel Barbosa

Unhappy Inter Milan forward Gabriel Barbosa may leave the club in January, with Premier League side Liverpool on high alert

According to James Whaling of the Daily Mirror, reported Liverpool target Gabriel Barbosa is likely to leave Inter Milan in January. The player’s agent Wagner Ribeiro claims that his client is being ‘humiliated’ by the lack of game time, and could part ways the Serie A outfit in order to clock regular playing minutes.

As per Football Italia, his agent said: “Everyone knows the salary which Gabriel receives at Inter isn’t sustainable for Santos, no club [in Brazil] can afford him .I was contacted by a club from Rio and one from Minas to take Gabriel on loan, but I can’t guarantee anything. What I want is for my client to no longer be humiliated”

“Why isn’t he playing? Not even Inter can answer that. We’ll resolve this situation in January, he has a five-year contract but that doesn’t mean anything if he isn’t playing,” added the football agent.

There was an impending buzz when Inter signed the 20-year-old for a whopping €30 million in the summer. A number of top European sides were vying for the player’s signature, but Inter decide to splash the cash to get their man. It was expected that the Brazilian would be a regular feature in the Nerazzurri setup, but has only been given 16 minutes of football in the Serie A this season.

Liverpool’s attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho have helped the Reds flirt with top spot on a number of occasions this term, but since the injury to Coutinho, things have not quite panned out for them.

With the Brazilian out for a number of weeks and Mane set to miss key Premier League fixtures through the African Cup of Nations, Jurgen Klopp will be looking to bolster his attacking options come January.

Divock Origi has, thus far, proven that he can serve as an understudy and deliver the goods when called upon, but Daniel Sturridge is not having that kind of an impact at the club. Reserve striker Danny Ings is also in a predicament and is set to miss the entire season due to injury.

While Barbosa is young and blooming of potential, doubts remain whether he has the right making to be a striker under Jurgen Klopp. The German wants his players to be workers and fight for their spot in the first team. Barbosa will be expecting to be a regular starter at his next club and that will not be a guarantee that Klopp can offer at Anfield.
