Official: Tottenham have tied down striker Harry Kane to a new contract till 2022

The 23-year-old Englishman has been one of the most lethal and consistent strikers in the Premier League over the past few seasons. Tottenham have now tied him down to a long-term contract at White Hart Lane

Kane has amassed a number of suitors with his goal scoring heroics. Manchester United were long believed to be interested in the 23-year-old as a possible replacement for Wanye Rooney, while Serie A giants Napoli also launched a move for the Englishman this past summer.

However all of the interested parties will now have to look elsewhere for their striking needs. Harry Kane has signed a new five and a half year contract that will see him continue to represent the Lily Whites until 2022.

“We are delighted to announce that Harry Kane has signed a new contract with the Club, which will run until 2022,” read a club statement on the official website.

Kane ended last season as the winner of the prestigious Golden Boot, for his haul of 25 Premier League goals. It was a club record for goals scored in a season for Tottenham, and Kane was also named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Kane follows a number of Spurs key players who have signed new contracts in the past year, including the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen. The 23-year-old Englishman’s new wages could eclipse his teammates by quite a margin though.

The Evening Standard are reporting that Kane will now be earning wages in excess of £100,000 a week. This will make him the highest earning player ever in Spurs’ books, and will surpass the £80,000 a week currently paid to goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Harry Kane has been phenomenal for Spurs, and this deal has been a long time coming. In many ways Kane is the face of a resurgent Tottenham side, who are no longer perennial underachievers and also-rans.

The Englishman has already notched up 46 Premier League goals in his last two seasons, since breaking into the starting XI. Spurs will be hoping that he continues in the same vein as they aim to compete with the established elite of the Premier League.
