Manchester United warned off German star Thomas Muller by Bayern Munich

Manchester United had been linked last summer to an audacious bid for one of Germany’s best attacking players. But a club insider has stated that it is highly unlikely that he will leave his current club Bayern Munich.

United have been making some big money signings almost every transfer window these past couple of years. While they have landed some marquee players like Paul Pogba, Angel Di Maria and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, they have been linked with several others.

One such player was Germany and Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller. Man United were reportedly ready to pay €100 million for the 27-year-old, who was one of former manager Louis van Gaal’s top transfer targets.

However, German politician Edmund Stoiber, who is a supervisory board member at Bayern Munich, has stated that Muller would never be sold to United.

“It should not be happening that someone like Thomas Muller plays for Manchester United,” said Stoiber, according to German publication Bild.

“The fans were already a bit unhappy when Schweinsteiger left us for Manchester United. But he was already 32 and wanted a new challenge. But our fans and members would never forgive us if we sold Muller.

“He is the opposite of someone like Cristiano Ronaldo. He is much more than just a great player. Muller is part of our DNA.

“He represents key values for us and is someone the fans love.”

Thomas Muller is truly a Bayern Munich player through and through. He came through the youth ranks, and has remained at the Allianz Arena since breaking into the first team in 2009 under Louis van Gaal.

The 27-year-old has often been hailed as a very special kind of attacking player, with an innate mastery over positioning and precise finishing. Many of the top teams in the world would like to have Muller in their side, and Man United is one of them.

However, the Premier League giant’s attacking needs have been attended to since they were first rumored to be in for Muller. The arrival of French forward Anthony Martial for a whopping £36 million, and the emergence of boy-wonder Marcus Rashford addressed those needs last season.

This past summer they also signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is also most definitely a special kind of forward.
