Victor Moses has emerged as a potential target for Barcelona, according to recent reports from Spain
Moses has been reborn under Antonio Conte, with the Nigerian international proving highly effective as a wing-back in Conte’s much-lauded 3-4-3 system.
Conte himself earlier this week expressed his surprise that Moses was such an underestimated player at Stamford Bridge, saying he could instantly see the potential that Moses had within days of watching the midfielder train.
The Nigerian spent 3 consecutive seasons out on loan at Liverpool, Stoke and at West Ham, and many expected the Nigerian international to be one of the first ones out of the door when Conte took over this season, particularly given his lukewarm spell at West Ham.
But Moses has now established himself as a key member of Antonio Conte’s squad having made 13 appearances this season, scoring 3 goals and assisting 1 in the process.
Moses has also contributed immensely from a defensive perspective, tracking back whenever required and bursting forward on Chelsea’s counters, showcasing his impressive physical capabilities.
And, according to the report, Barcelona’s ongoing hunt for a long-term replacement for Dani Alves – who joined Juventus in the sumer – has led to them targeting Victor Moses as his long-term successor.
According to Sport, Barcelona have already watched Moses 3 times this season and are quite serious about their interest in the Nigerian.
Any move for him is likely to be met with some resistance, however, as Conte’s comments and Moses’ regularity in the side this season, it is clear he is a firm favourite in the managers eyes.
However, Moses’ contract only runs until 2019 and this could encourage Barcelona to make a move for the 25-year old come the summer.
At 25, Moses still has his best years ahead of him and Barcelona’s preference for younger players could be another factor in them deciding to push for a move.
Chelsea and Barcelona have negotiated a few deals in the past few years, with both Cesc Fabregas and Pedro moving to Chelsea from the Catalan giants.
This relationship could mean that Chelsea at least hear Barcelona out, but it is very unlikely that Conte will sanction a move for Moses and, with Roman Abramovich firmly behind his manager and in no need for funds, there is no reason Chelsea will be forced into a sale.
