Manchester United superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic discussed the club’s potential move for Swedish defender Victor Lindelof, insisting that he’s good enough to play at Old Trafford or any of Europe’s “big clubs”
Swedish international Victor Lindelof has been the subject of constant interest from Premier League giants Manchester United. The Red Devils have regularly sent scouts Estadio da Luz over the past 12 months, and reportedly made a £20 million bid for the centre back in the summer, before moving on to Eric Bailly.
Earlier this week, Portuguese outlet Record reported the Manchester United are ready to firm up their interest in the Lindelof as they yet again had scouts sent to watch him and teammate Nelson Semedo.
With United manager Jose Mourinho looking set to make another move for the Swede in January, compatriot Zlatan Ibrahimovic said that Lindelof would make it big at United should his club sign the defender.
As per Manchester Evening News, former Sweden captain Ibrahimovic said in United’s pre-Feyenoord press conference: “I think Victor is doing great things, he is playing good for Benfica, he gets a lot of responsibility for the national team now. He is growing. Is he good enough for United? I think he’s good enough for the big clubs out there. It’s up to him what he wants and what the situation says.”
Star striker Ibrahimovic went on to add: “Whatever he chooses will be good for him. I know he is hot on the market so let him make the right choice, what fits him good.”
Lindelof has been caught the the eye ever since he rose up the ranks at Benfica, garnering interest from the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus, apart from Manchester United. The 22-year-old has impressed for the national team too. Lindelof only made his international debut earlier this year, and already has 11 caps to his name.
Manchester United have been struggling with injuries in the heart of their defence, with first choice pairing of Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling sidelined till December at the very least. Phil Jones’ progress at Old Trafford has been hampered by a spate of injuries as well, and Marcos Rojo has failed to impress.
So, a move for the burly Swede makes sense, with Jose Mourinho looking to strengthen his defence. As Lindelof continues to attract attention of European bigwigs, Mourinho will certainly be keen to snap him up early.
